Official PPA Theory Examination Portal
Welcome to the Paragliding and Paramotor Association (PPA) Online Theory Examination Portal.
This page provides access to the official online theory exams used within the PPA Pilot Development System.
Pilots can complete their theory assessments in their own time, on any device, as part of their training, progression, and certification record within the PPA framework.
How It Works
You may attempt any of the exams listed on this page.
When starting an exam, you must enter your real first name and last name. This information is used for your examination record and any certificate generated on successful completion.
Once you achieve the required pass mark, a certificate is generated automatically for download and retention within your training records.
Exams may be retaken where permitted. If you need to reattempt an exam, simply restart the relevant test and re-enter your details.
Which Exams Must Be Completed?
The PPA currently operates 7 online theory exams in total.
Core Theory Exams
Tests 1–5 are mandatory for all student pilots completing basic training within the PPA system.
No student will be authorised for solo flight until all 5 core theory exams have been completed and passed.
Advanced Theory Exams
Tests 6–7 are advanced progression exams intended for pilots moving beyond the foundation stage, including pathways such as:
-
Advanced Pilot progression
-
Tandem Flight operations
Your instructor will advise which theory exam is appropriate for your current stage of training and development.
Pass Marks
Most PPA theory exams require a minimum score of 80% to pass.
However, the following exams are classified as critical knowledge assessments and require a 100% pass mark:
-
PPA Critical Safety & Air Law Exam (UK)
-
PPA Tandem Flight Exam
These exams are considered safety-critical due to their direct relevance to legal compliance, passenger safety, and operational responsibility.
If you score below 100% in either of these exams, the exam is recorded as not passed.
Purpose of the Exams
The PPA theory examination system is designed to ensure pilots demonstrate the knowledge required to support safe and responsible flying.
These exams are intended to assess understanding in key areas including:
-
Safety procedures
-
Air law
-
Equipment knowledge
-
Weather and conditions
-
Emergency procedures
-
Risk awareness and operational judgement
Theory knowledge forms an essential part of pilot progression and supports the standards expected within the PPA Pilot Development System.
Important Information
Successful completion of a theory exam confirms knowledge and understanding within the PPA system only.
Passing an exam does not, by itself:
-
grant solo or operational privileges
-
replace practical assessment
-
replace instructor sign-off
-
replace national licensing requirements
-
override local regulations or insurance obligations
All pilots remain responsible for complying with applicable laws, airspace rules, site regulations, and safe operating practices.
Assessment Integrity
To maintain the integrity of the PPA system, all online exams must be completed honestly and accurately.
Any misuse, false submission, or misrepresentation may result in:
-
exam result cancellation
-
refusal of progression
-
removal from certification records
-
refusal of verification within the PPA system
