Paramotor & Paragliding Insurance

What Pilots and Students Need to Check Before They Rely on Any Policy

At PPG Training UK, we strongly recommend that every student and pilot has the correct insurance in place before flying.

One of the biggest mistakes people make is assuming a policy covers more than it actually does.

Not every policy marketed around paragliding or paramotoring covers the things that matter most. Some policies may include travel, medical cover, or supervised training, but still exclude the paramotor itself, certain types of flying, or key situations you may assume you are insured for.

Before you rely on any policy, check exactly what it covers, what it excludes, and whether it matches the type of flying you are actually doing. Do not assume. Check properly.

Important Note

PPG Training UK is not an insurer or insurance broker.

This page is provided as general guidance only, to help students and pilots understand the questions they need to ask before purchasing cover.

Insurance terms, exclusions, and conditions vary between providers and policies, so it remains your responsibility to confirm that your cover is suitable before flying.

Insurance for Students and Training Trips

If you are learning to fly, attending a training course, or travelling abroad for a flying trip, you will usually need specialist cover that includes training activities.

A provider many students look at is:

SportsCover Direct

This is often one of the better starting points for students and pilots travelling abroad, but you must still check the policy carefully and make sure the cover matches your actual activity.

Before purchasing, confirm:

  • That paramotoring or paragliding is explicitly included

  • That training is covered if you are still learning

  • That emergency medical and repatriation cover is included where needed

  • That the policy is valid for the country you are travelling to

UK-Based Cover Options

Some pilots also look at:

Insure4Sport

  • Use my name when purchasing this policy using the link above Anthony Beddoes

This can be worth looking at for UK-based cover options, but the same rule applies: do not rely on assumptions.

Before purchasing, confirm:

  • Whether paramotoring is included

  • Whether training is covered

  • Whether there are exclusions relating to equipment or flight type

  • Whether the policy matches the level and type of flying you intend to do

Insurance for Qualified Pilots

If you are already a qualified pilot flying your own equipment, you may need annual third-party liability and personal accident cover rather than training-specific cover.

One option pilots may look at is:

FlyInsure

This is generally aimed more at experienced pilots, but as always, you must confirm that the policy fits your exact needs and flying activity before relying on it.

What Your Insurance Should Cover

Before purchasing any policy, make sure it clearly includes what you actually need.

That may include:

  • Paramotor or paragliding, explicitly stated

  • Training cover, where applicable

  • Third-party liability

  • Personal accident or medical cover

  • Flying abroad, if you are travelling

  • Any specific activity or equipment cover relevant to your flying

What Many Policies Do Not Cover

This is where pilots often get caught out.

Many policies do not cover:

  • The paramotor equipment itself

  • Certain types of flying or conditions

  • Commercial or tandem operations

  • Flying outside the terms of the policy

  • Incorrect pilot level, certification, or declared activity

That is why reading the small print matters.

Our Advice

Do not buy insurance just because the headline sounds right.

Check the details properly.

If you are unsure, speak to us before you purchase anything. We can usually point you in the right direction based on whether you are a student, travelling abroad, or already flying independently.

Choosing the wrong policy can leave you thinking you are covered when you are not.
