Learn to Fly Paramotor & Paragliding Properly in the UK

Beginner paramotor and paragliding training in Yorkshire for people who want real skill, not rushed shortcuts.

Most schools are in a hurry to get you airborne. We are not.

At PPG Training UK, we train genuine beginners from the ground up through a structured, wing control first system designed to build calm, capable, independent pilots. No rushed shortcuts. No false confidence. No pretending that one lucky flight means someone is properly trained.

We teach the right skills, in the right order, until they become reliable.

Most of our students train around work and family life, mainly at weekends, with additional weekday opportunities available when conditions allow. That means you can learn properly without trying to force aviation into a rigid timetable.

Train properly from day one.

Why Choose PPG Training UK for Beginner Paramotor and Paragliding Training?

Paramotoring is powered paragliding. The wing is the aircraft. The motor is the final piece.

That is where many people get it wrong.

They become obsessed with the engine and overlook the part that matters most: controlling the wing.
Poor wing control leads to poor launches, poor habits, poor judgement, and eventually poor pilots.
We do it differently.

We build glider control first. We teach you how to manage pressure, stay balanced, control the wing correctly, read conditions, and make sound decisions before power is added.
That is what creates cleaner launches, safer progression, and pilots who stay composed when conditions are not perfect.

Anyone can sell the dream. Very few can build the skill. We do.

You are looking for easy answers instead of real skill

How Our Paramotor and Paragliding Training Works
We take you step by step from complete beginner to confident solo pilot through a clear training progression built for real UK conditions.

This is not random exposure. It is not being pushed forward before you are ready. It is structured development from the ground up.

Phase 1: Wing Control Foundations
This is where pilots are made.
Before there is power, there is control. Before there is airtime, there is discipline. Before there is confidence, there must be competence.

You will learn:
-
Wing layout and preparation
-
Forward and reverse inflations
-
Balance, pressure, and control
-
Tracking and staying centred
-
Wind awareness and management
-
Abort discipline and decision-making

Phase 2: Launch Discipline
Once your control improves, we sharpen everything under pressure.
You will learn:
-
Clean, repeatable inflations
-
Surge control and drift correction
-
Launch routines and site discipline
-
Decision-making under realistic conditions
-
Ground handling drills that prepare you for real take-offs

Phase 3: Adding Power
Only when your wing control is where it needs to be do we add the motor.
You will learn:
-
Engine checks and safe setup
-
Start-up and shutdown procedures
-
Throttle control
-
Ground handling with power
-
Transitioning strong glider control into powered launch technique

Phase 4: Flight Training
When you are ready, flying begins.
You will learn:
-
Radio-guided take-offs and landings
-
Circuit work
-
Turning and flare timing
-
Height control and positioning
-
Safety drills and emergency awareness

Where appropriate, and when conditions allow, more advanced exercises may also be introduced under supervision.

Weekend and Flexible Training Built Around Real Life and Real Weather

One of the biggest reasons people delay training is because they assume they need to disappear for a full week, hope for perfect weather, and somehow make life stop while they learn. That is not how we do it.

Most students train at weekends, with extra weekday opportunities available when conditions allow. That makes training far more realistic for people with jobs, families, and responsibilities.

We plan around safe, suitable weather and keep students informed through our communication system, so when workable training days become available, you can book on and keep progressing. Just as importantly, not every non-flying day is a wasted day.

If conditions are too strong for beginner flying, typically around or above 20 mph, or if rain rules out safe airtime, there is often still productive training to do. Depending on the day, that can include wing control, ground handling, launch drills, theory, equipment setup, decision-making, and the kind of repetition that builds real skill.

Some of the most valuable lessons happen when students stop chasing flights and start understanding the wing properly.

This is aviation. Weather matters. So we work with it properly.

Equipment and Buying Advice for New Students
New students are welcome to begin using PPG Training UK training equipment, including the wing, paramotor, helmet, and radio where appropriate.

We strongly advise new students not to rush out and buy flying equipment upfront.
That is one of the most common beginner mistakes.

Until your instructor has seen your progress properly, you do not yet know what equipment genuinely suits your weight, ability, launch style, long-term goals, or the kind of flying you are likely to do. Buying too early often leads to the wrong gear, wasted money, and bad decisions made through enthusiasm rather than experience.

Learn first. Understand what you actually need. Then buy properly. With that said, students who become serious and later invest in the right training kit to practise safely in their own time between lessons often progress noticeably faster. More repetition on the right drills builds feel, consistency, and muscle memory, which means better carry-over into lessons and quicker overall development.

The key is simple: do not buy gear blindly at the start, but when the time is right, the right training kit can make a big difference.

As your training develops, we will advise you properly on equipment that suits your weight, level, and long-term direction, so you build familiarity on gear that actually fits you.
Any damage caused through misuse or unsafe handling is the responsibility of the student.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need my own equipment?
No. Beginners can start training using school equipment.

Should I buy gear before I start?
No. We advise new students not to buy equipment upfront. It is far better to begin training first, let your instructor assess you properly, and then choose equipment based on your actual needs rather than guesswork.

Does owning training kit help me progress faster?
In many cases, yes. Students who later buy the right training kit and practise appropriately between lessons often progress faster because they get more repetition, better feel for the wing, and more consistency between sessions.

Can I train around work and family life?
Yes. Most students train mainly at weekends, with additional weekday opportunities available when conditions allow.

What happens if the weather is not suitable for flying?
Training is weather-dependent, but that does not always mean the day is lost. If wind is too strong for beginner flying, or if rain rules out airtime, there is often still useful training to do, including ground handling, wing control, theory, launch drills, equipment setup, and decision making.

How long does it take to reach first solo?
That depends on consistency, weather, aptitude, and how well your skills develop. Most students reach first solo in around 8 to 12 lessons.

What if I am not sure whether the sport is right for me?
That is exactly why early training matters. Your first lessons help assess your aptitude, attitude, and whether the sport is a good long term fit before you go deeper.

Do you rush people into flying?
No. That is exactly what we avoid. We build skill in the correct order so that, when flying starts, it is built on control rather than luck.

Start Properly
Learning to fly should not be built around hype, pressure, or shortcuts.
It should be built around control, judgement, discipline, and proper progression.
That is exactly what we do.
